Teen Life Coaching is a process of helping teenagers discover, articulate, and live out who they are, what they value, what they want in their life, and how to get there in a practical way. Here are the 10 skills your teen walk away with by the end of our 6-week program:
A teen life coach is there to be what we call a “bridging adult.” As parents and educators ourselves, we recognize the need for teenagers to have an adult (other than a parent) in their life to help them bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood; a mentor who will listen, not pass judgement, and guide them in the art and science of “adulting,” all while stepping into their full potential. Our coaches play that role for these kids as a positive role model and trustworthy adult that they can confide in and learn from.
Coaches will have two 45-minute meetings per week via Zoom, for a total of 12 virtual meetings over the course of 6 weeks. Depending on what is most effective for your teenager, these meetings can be customized to be shorter and more frequent. These meetings will consist of a lot of questions and guided activities to help students intentionally think about and explore what they value and what they want in their lives, as well as helping them develop doable, practical plans for achieving their goals one step at a time.
As parents ourselves, we understand that you will want to do everything you can to support your child through this process and ensure they are getting the most out of their experience – we are all in this together! Coaches met with parents once a week for 6 weeks to check in, discuss their child’s progress, address any concerns, and provide guidance and practical tools for how to best support their child in this process.
A few reasons…First, the foundation of our program is a strong, trusting relationship between the child, the parent, and the coach. We are a ware that trust is gained slowly over time and 6 weeks allows us to make that investment to get to know your child, and become someone they can trust and confide in. Second, statistics show that it takes about 2 months to form a new habit that will last long-term. Our commitment is to walk with each child through their journey for 6 full weeks, long enough to start forming new habits that will last.
Most parents see a visible difference in their teenager within the first few weeks. Our program uses proprietary resources that we have created to guide students along this journey of self-discovery, organizational skill development, and self-confidence building. Coaches will work with students using a shared goal planner, daily routine tracker, and other resources that they can continue to use well after the program ends.
No, this is not a counselling or therapy program and coaches are not licensed mental health professionals. Coaches are educators with years of experience working with teenagers. Our goal is to be a guide and coach for your child, but not to provide mental health advice.
Teenagers often come to us unmotivated, lacking direction and drive, anxious about the future, irritable and depressed, and not sure what they want in life or how to get there. Through the program, students will leave with a solid sense of who they are, where they want to go, and a plan for how to get there. They will walk away with excitement about their future, increased self-confidence, better communication skills, and new tools and skills to get themselves organized and stay on track.
